Goodreads Synopsis:

The magic continues in SABRINA THE TEENAGE WITCH: THE MAGIC WITHIN!

Sabrina Spellman’s life is intense. On top of the usual stresses of being a teenager, she’s a witch! And that means two schools and twice the work, from her Mortal Realm high school and the Magic Realm’s Charm School.

It should be simpler. But in addition to a regular spelling bee, she has to study for a magical spell-ing bee. She’s finally dating her childhood Sweetheart—but he doesn’t know she’s a witch! She also has a crush on a cute young wizard—but he’s dating her best friend! On top of the drama, Sabrina keeps being dragged into the middle of strange and dangerous events in the Magic Realm.

Written and illustrated by acclaimed artist Tania del Rio, THE MAGIC WITHIN 2 is the second collection of Archie’s critically praised American manga!

Review:

I love this series! It’s a lot of fun. It isn’t like the other Sabrina the Teenage Witch comics or shows I’ve watched before.

There are a lot of fantasy elements to the story. The magic realm plays an important part in the series. Sabrina and her friend discover that the Mana Tree is dying, which represents the life of their queen. They also travel under the sea to the world of merpeople. I love these fantasy elements of the story. Rather than seeing a witch in the real world, which is what the other series are usually about, we get to see the magical world that Sabrina comes from.

One part that I found surprising with this series is Harvey. I can’t stand him in these stories! He can’t make up his mind about liking Sabrina. He likes her, but once they get together, he changes his mind. I was rooting for her and Shinji to get together (even though he is dating her best friend).

I highly recommend this series for fans of Sabrina! It’s a refreshing look at the teenage witch!

Goodreads Synopsis:

Foster Stewart knows she’s different. Her life has never been “normal.” Talking to plants and controlling cloud formations aren’t things most seventeen year olds are into. Tate “Nighthawk” Taylor is perfect. Star quarterback and all around dreamy boy next door he never thought about his “extra” abilities. What quarterback wouldn’t want night vision? That’s not weird, right? It’s cool!

But on the night of their first meeting a deadly tornado brings them together and awakens their true abilities – the power to control the element air. Unbeknown to Tate and Foster, they are the first in a group of teens that were genetically manipulated before birth to bond with the elements. Which truly sucks for Foster, as she has to face the fact that Dr. Rick Stewart, her beloved scientist father, betrayed her and now wants to use her and the others for his own nefarious world domination plot.

Foster and Tate must stop Dr. Stewart and his minions before he destroys their lives and the world.

Review:

This is a great start to a new fantasy series.

P.C. and Kristin Cast have been huge fantasy writers for years, but I haven’t read one of their books before. I loved this one! It was very detailed and fast paced. It was never a dull moment while reading this story!

There were lots of characters that were introduced throughout the story. There are the two main characters, Foster and Tate, who have special powers that control the air. There are also Foster’s adoptive siblings, Mark, Matthew, Luke, and Eve. Later in the story, two more main characters are introduced, named Charlotte and Bastien. There were loads of other important characters as well.

I felt like there were so many characters, that we were barely introduced to some of them. I’m not sure how long this series is going to be, but this seemed like a brief introduction, even though it was a full book. The ending was really a huge climax in the story! I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book!

Goodreads Synopsis:

Can you love someone you can never touch?

Stella Grant likes to be in control—even though her totally out of control lungs have sent her in and out of the hospital most of her life. At this point, what Stella needs to control most is keeping herself away from anyone or anything that might pass along an infection and jeopardize the possibility of a lung transplant. Six feet apart. No exceptions.

The only thing Will Newman wants to be in control of is getting out of this hospital. He couldn’t care less about his treatments, or a fancy new clinical drug trial. Soon, he’ll turn eighteen and then he’ll be able to unplug all these machines and actually go see the world, not just its hospitals.

Will’s exactly what Stella needs to stay away from. If he so much as breathes on Stella she could lose her spot on the transplant list. Either one of them could die. The only way to stay alive is to stay apart. But suddenly six feet doesn’t feel like safety. It feels like punishment.

What if they could steal back just a little bit of the space their broken lungs have stolen from them? Would five feet apart really be so dangerous if it stops their hearts from breaking too?

Review:

I was so surprised when I found out that this book was being published and made into a movie at the same time. I figured it must be great, if it was made into a movie before it was even published! It didn’t disappoint.

I didn’t know anything about Cystic Fibrosis before reading this book. I learned a lot! I didn’t know that people who have CF can’t come into contact with each other, because they could contract each other’s germs which could be deadly. It is even worse if the person has another illness on top of CF, such as B. Cepacia. That is what Will has in this story, and it is more crucial that he stay away from Stella. However, that becomes a problem once they meet and fall in love.

This story was both heartbreaking and heartwarming. There was a lot of tragedy, including some things that happened before the beginning of the book. Some parts were difficult to read because they were so heartbreaking, but those parts are also important to the story. I won’t spoil the ending, but I will say that I was satisfied with it.

I loved this story and now I can’t wait to watch the movie!

Review:

I read the original Runaways series a couple of years ago. I loved it, and I was so disappointed when I got to the last book. I was so excited about this new graphic novel series!

This story takes place two years after the ending of the old series. It’s been a while since I read it, so I didn’t remember how it ended. It took a while for me to catch on to what was happening. I also had the plot from the TV series on my mind, and that is a completely different story. However, I loved this story, too!

The graphics in this story were amazing. They looked so realistic. I wasn’t crazy about the art in the original series, so this one was a big improvement. There were also a bunch of funny parts. Who doesn’t love a villain with telepathic cats?

I loved this graphic novel! I’ll have to read the second one soon!

Goodreads Synopsis:

Welcome to the City of Sin, where casino families reign, gangs infest the streets…and secrets hide in every shadow.

Enne Salta was raised as a proper young lady, and no lady would willingly visit New Reynes, the so-called City of Sin. But when her mother goes missing, Enne must leave her finishing school—and her reputation—behind to follow her mother’s trail to the city where no one survives uncorrupted.

Frightened and alone, Enne has only one lead: the name Levi Glaisyer. Unfortunately, Levi is not the gentleman she expected—he’s a street lord and a con man. Levi is also only one payment away from cleaning up a rapidly unraveling investment scam, so he doesn’t have time to investigate a woman leading a dangerous double life. Enne’s offer of compensation, however, could be the solution to all his problems.

Their search for clues leads them through glamorous casinos, illicit cabarets and into the clutches of a ruthless Mafia donna. As Enne unearths an impossible secret about her past, Levi’s enemies catch up to them, ensnaring him in a vicious execution game where the players always lose. To save him, Enne will need to surrender herself to the city…

And she’ll need to play.

Review:

I’ve been wanting to read this book for so long! It definitely lived up to the hype!

This story was different from other contemporary fantasy novels which are set in worlds that resemble past eras. This one was set in the City of Sin, which was like Las Vegas. Instead of kings and queens, there were gamblers and gang leaders.

The story was told between two perspectives: Enne’s and Levi’s. This gave two points of view of the city. Enne was new to the city so she was new to everything, just like the reader. Levi has always lived there, so there were many more characters and drama in his narrative. I preferred Enne’s narrative because I could relate to it more since she was a newcomer to the City of Sin.

I loved this story! I can’t wait to read the next book in the series when it comes out in a couple of weeks.

Goodreads Synopsis:

Roses are read, violets are blue, if you hurt us, we’re coming for you.

The deeply secretive Black Coats have been exacting vengeance on men who hurt girls and women for years. And Thea has just received an invitation to join them. This is the opportunity she’s been waiting for to finally get justice for her cousin Natalie, whose killer went free.

Thea dives head first into the group, training every day with other girls whose stories rival hers. Together they carry out Balancings—acts of revenge guaranteed to teach a lesson. With every predator threatened, every blackmailer exposed, and every date rapist punished, Thea can feel herself getting closer to avenging Natalie’s death.

But then the Balancings begin to escalate in brutality, and Thea discovers that the Black Coats are not all they seem to be. Thea must confront just how far she’s willing to go for justice—and what kind of justice Natalie, and Thea herself, deserve. Because when the line between justice and revenge is razor thin, it’s hard not to get cut.

Review:

I loved this story!

The premise is so intriguing. The idea of women getting revenge on men who have harmed women sounds fair and just. However, there is a cloudy moral area, where you have to determine where their justice ends. Though it should balance out the men’s harm to women, the women could also go too far. I was glad that they addressed this issue later in the book.

The second half of the book was so thrilling! The first part took a lot of time to show how the Black Coats operate and how they complete their Balancings. In the second half of the book, the story took a surprising turn, which was great!

This is a fabulous story that definitely lived up to my expectations!

Goodreads Synopsis:

This second novel begins in 1940, immediately after the first book ended. Having escaped Miss Peregrine’s island by the skin of their teeth, Jacob and his new friends must journey to London, the peculiar capital of the world. Along the way, they encounter new allies, a menagerie of peculiar animals, and other unexpected surprises.

Complete with dozens of newly discovered (and thoroughly mesmerising) vintage photographs, this new adventure will delight readers of all ages.

Review:

This story begins right where the last one ended. It was thrilling right away because the action began immediately.

The kids meet more peculiars in this story. It was a little confusing and difficult to keep track of all of the peculiars because there were so many! It also got a bit overwhelming because there was a lot of drama with the ymbrynes who go missing.

The ending of the story was exciting. It was a great cliffhanger to lead to the next book!

Goodreads Synopsis:

Oliver Twist gets a fresh take in this reimagining of the Dickensian classic taking the familiar characters and turning them on their heads in a historical thriller packed with weird science, political suspense, and steamy romance, perfect for fans of Kerri Maniscalco’s Stalking Jack the Ripper and Marissa Meyer’s Cinder.

From Alisa Kwitney comes a connected novel set in the same alternative Victorian England of Cadaver & QueenCorpse & Crownfollows the story of Agatha DeLacey, an Ingold nursing student who travels to London and uncovers a devastating secret about the country’s Bio-Mechanicals. Inspired by the classic story of Oliver Twist and complete with a dashing Artful Dodger-inspired male lead, this retelling is a satisfying follow-up to Kwitney’s clever and critically acclaimed young adult debut.

Review:

This is a fun series! It is set in Victorian times, with science fiction themes.

The first book in the story, Cadaver and Queen, is an adaptation of Frankenstein. This story is an adaptation of Oliver Twist. I actually haven’t read either of those books, so I’m not sure how much of the original story is included, though the characters are there.

There are a lot of medical scenes because it is set in a hospital. I’m quite squeamish, but I was able to get through those scenes. There were some blood and surgeries involved. However, these scenes were limited so I was able to enjoy the story.

The biomechanicals in this story are corpses who have been turned into machines by attaching different body parts. An interesting aspect of these creatures is that they can continue to experience the lives and memories of the donor. This was similar to the phantom limb syndrome, which is when a person can still feel their limbs after they have been amputated.

I really enjoyed this book!

He will risk everything to save his country and himself. But some secrets aren’t meant to stay buried—and some wounds aren’t meant to heal.

Review:

I’ve been excited about this book for months! I’m so glad I finally got to read it.

It’s been a while since I read Six of Crows and the Grisha trilogy, so it took me a few chapters to get oriented in the story. It was a little confusing because there are characters from both series in this one, so I had to remember what happened in both series to understand this one.

This story was so thrilling. It was so hard to put down because there were a lot of plot twists. This book followed different perspectives, like the Six of Crows series, including Nina, Nikolai, and Zoya. We get to learn a lot about their histories. These were some of the most interesting characters so I’m glad they were the focus of this book.

This is a fabulous story! I recommend reading the Grisha trilogy and the Six of Crows duology before reading this book, since those characters appear in this book. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book!

Goodreads Synopsis:

The third book in the #1 New York Times bestselling Princess Diaries series by Meg Cabot.

Princess Mia may seem like the luckiest girl ever. But the truth is, she spends all her time doing one of three things: preparing for her nerve-racking entree into Genovian society, slogging through the congestion unique to Manhattan in December, and avoiding further smooches from her hapless boyfriend, Kenny. For Mia, being a princess in love is not the fairy tale it’s supposed to be…or is it?

Princess in Love is the third book in the beloved, bestselling series that inspired the feature film starring Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews. Beautifully repackaged in paperback, this title will appeal to new readers as well as fans looking to update their collection.

Review:

This is my favorite book in the series so far.

There was lots of tension in this story. Mia is dating Kenny, but she is in love with Michael. She is persuaded to send Michael secret admirer cards. There was a lot of confusion at the end of the story, but I loved the ending!

One of my favorite parts of the book was Mia’s list for looking after her cat, Fat Louie, for while she is away in Genovia. He needs water from different sources in particular dishes around the apartment. He also needs his special collection of shiny things to remain undisturbed, among other things. This list was so funny! It reminded me of my own dog who is quite finicky himself. We have to leave a similar list of instructions when we go away.

The end of this story was so good! I can’t wait to continue the series!
