Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish and it is now hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s theme is Backlist Books I Want To Read, but I changed it to Classics I Want to Read. Here’s my list:
1. Vanity Fair by William Makepeace Thackeray

2. Frankenstein by Mary Shelley

3. Mansfield Park by Jane Austen

4. Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy

5. War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy

6. The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Brontë

7. Shirley by Charlotte Brontë

8. Silas Marner by George Eliot

9. A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens

10. Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky

Nice post girl,

After watching Vanity Fair I was completely put off from the book. I am rereading Dracula at the moment, I forgot how good it is. I don’t think I’ll read War and Peace. I couldn’t get into Agnes Grey so I’m not sure if I’ll read another book just yet by Anne Brontë. I live classics. Austen,Hardy and Charlotte Brontë are my favourites. I love Jane Eyre

I love Jane Eyre too! I have been putting off Vanity Fair and War and Peace because of the size of them, but maybe I’ll take Vanity Fair off my list.

You have some great books on here. I find Serial Reader really helpful to break down the classics into daily chunks. I read War & Peace and Crime & Punishment that way. I love Frankenstein, Mansfield Park, the Tenant of Wildfell Hall, and A Tale of Two Cities, and I hope you do too. I still need to read Vanity Fair, Silas Marner, and Shirley on this list (I’m currently reading Villette so Shirley will be next!).

Thanks for the tip! It’s so hard to find time to read these massive classics when I have so many contemporary books I want to read!

nice selection….
I have read A Tale of Two Cities and it is one of the best books I have read till date. And I have heard really great things about rest of the books.

I’d like to read vanity fair and shirley too. Definitely recommend anna karenina, war and peace and crime and punishment! (so all the Russian books 😉 ) And Frankenstein can be hit and miss for people, but I love it 😀

I’m interested in the Russian ones but they’re sooooo long! I tried reading Frankenstein a few years ago and I couldn’t get into it. But I just read The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein and I loved it, so I want to give it another try.

Some great books there! I love A Tale of Two Cities – kinda different from Dickens usual, less rambly. And Vanity Fair is another favourite. Hope you get time to read them all… 😀

I read Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy earlier this year and as more time passes I can honestly say I am liking it more and more the more I think about it. It has an almost timeless quality to it that can be relatable in some ways.

Thanks! That’s great to hear! It’s funny how as you digest a story over time, you can fall more in love with it.

It really is interesting. I kinda wanna kick myself for rating it what I did at first.
