One that threatens to destroy the balance of power.Fearful of Mare’s potential, the Silvers hide her in plain view, declaring her a long-lost Silver princess, now engaged to a Silver prince. Review:
This story is a lot like other contemporary YA Fantasy novels. Mare is a low class girl who finds herself at the palace where she discovers she is special, and she is valuable to the kingdom. This plot is like the Throne of Glass series or the Selection series. I was disappointed that it had an unoriginal beginning.
I did like the dynamic of the Reds and Silvers. Though I wasn’t happy that the story began in a predictable way, I was shocked at Mare’s powers. She’s a unique character. I liked her strength, though her bravery often got her into trouble.
Though I was initially disappointed by how this story began, I am going to continue with the series. It’s very popular, and I hope the rest of it heads in a different direction from other similar series.

I think this one had to much hype. I will have to compare notes when I read it.

I agree, but I got a boxed set so I still read Glass Sword after and I liked it much more than Red Queen. The story becomes more original as it continues.

Well, that is good to hear! Maybe it just suffered from 1st book syndrome?

Yeah, I’m glad I can dive into another Red Queen book, especially after how King’s Cage ended 😏

I enjoyed Red Queen; I just wish I could say I enjoyed the rest of the books as well. But I hope you have a nice experience continuing on to Glass Sword and then King’s Cage and War Storm.

I’m sorry to hear you didn’t like the rest of the series. I read Glass Sword and I actually liked it much more than Red Queen. But we all have different preferences. Have you read The Selection series? Red Queen reminded me of that series.

I devoured The Selection series. It was like reading a season of the show The Bachelor. And sometimes it is nice to have a drama filled romance.

I’ve been wondering whether to read this series for ages. I’ll perhaps look into it next winter — it feels like a wintry book?
